UR Music on Tour: Spain and Portugal
March 2-11, 2012
Two University of Richmond music groups with extensive experience performing abroad joined forces in Spain and Portugal. More than 50 students in the Department of Music's Jazz Ensemble and Schola Cantorum traveled together for the first time on a 10-day tour to Granada, Cordoba, Seville, and Lisbon under the direction of Dr. Mike Davison and Dr. Jeffrey Riehl.
The select Jazz Combo, a subset of the Jazz Ensemble, offers one concert a semester, performs regularly on campus and in the Richmond community, and goes on an annual international concert tour each year. The group has toured Australia five times, Costa Rica and most recently toured Greece.
Schola Cantorum is a small mixed chorus with an emphasis on a cappella repertoire. The group studies and performs choral literature from a variety of style periods and origins and performs regularly on and off campus. Schola also tours biannually, most recently Eastern Europe in 2009.
