Experiential Learning

Four walls can’t contain an entire education. That’s why, at Richmond, most students extend their educations by participating in experiential learning opportunities.  They’re the chance to take what you’ve learned in the classroom and apply it to the real world, either via research, an internship or studying abroad.

Study Abroad

University of Richmond students are encouraged to conduct research or independent study with an international focus. Richmond offers 75 study abroad programs, many of which contain a strong research component, in 30 countries. Programs are available during the academic year and over the summer.

Contact the Office of International Education or the Department of Music for more information.

Internships

The Music Internship (Music 388) is an opportunity reserved for juniors or seniors who seek a significant experience outside of regular class work in which they can apply what they’ve learned in their courses.

A proposal for the internship must be approved by the department chair before registering for the course. It should include a description of the work to be done, the expected results, the amount of credit desired (1–3 hours), and the name of the supervisor.

In addition to internships, music students may work as assistants in the Modlin Center, the music library or elsewhere in the department. For more information, visit the Office of Student Employment.
