Registration Procedures for Individual Instruction Courses
Students have the option of taking private lessons either for credit (MSAP 160 - 182) or for no credit (MSAP 060 - 082). Taking a lesson for no credit carries a $450 studio fee. Registration procedures vary.
Registration Procedures for Academic Credit
Music Majors and Minors - Primary Instrument
Music majors and minors are automatically eligible for no-fee private lessons on their primary instrument each semester they are enrolled in MUS 095.
Music Majors and Minors - Secondary Instrument
Those wishing to study a secondary instrument have two options:
- To take no-fee lessons for credit, students should complete the lesson request form. The Department of Music cannot guarantee no-fee lessons for credit on a secondary instrument.
- Students may also register for no credit and pay the studio fee. Students may apply to the department chair for a lesson fee waiver covered by music scholarship funds.
Non-majors
Students may enroll in no-fee private lessons for credit after completing the lesson request form and receiving departmental approval. Students may be asked to perform an audition. Due to limited availability, the Department of Music cannot guarantee no-fee lessons for credit. Requests from students enrolled in University ensembles or serving as piano accompanists will be given priority.
Beginners are advised to sign up for no-credit lessons (with fee) or to enroll in class lessons: MUS 130: Class Guitar, MUS 131: Class Piano or MUS 132: Class Voice.
Registration Procedures for No Credit
All students may register for private lessons that carry no academic credit. A studio fee of $450 will be charged for each registration that does not carry academic credit.
