MSEN 192: JAZZ ENSEMBLE
Study and performance of Big Band repertoire from swing era to present. One rehearsal and two sectionals weekly, with two or more concerts each year. May be repeated.

MSEN 195 - 01: COMBO: SWING
Small instrumental ensemble that focus on specific jazz traditions. Regular performances on and off campus. May be repeated.

MSEN 195 - 02: COMBO: BRAZILIAN
Hands-on exploration of Brazilian bossa-nova and samba traditions. Students will perform with expert musicians in an end-of-semester concert. No previous musical experience is necessary. Traditions learned aurally/orally; no prior experience with notation is necessary.
Rehearsals: Meeting time is arranged at the beginning of each semester

MSEN 204: Little Big Band
Large jazz combo; study and perform chamber jazz literature from many different jazz and contemporary styles, including swing, bebop, Latin jazz, and jazz rock. Emphasis on performance and improvisation. One 90-minute rehearsal weekly, with regular performances on and off campus.
Rehearsals: Thursdays, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. in Booker BB-002
